What To Look For Before You Begin A Painting

When you are searching for things to paint, do not look at the subject matter but look for shapes. Thinking too literally will limit what you will be able to paint.

Looking for darks and lights. Searching for positive and negative shapes. These are things you must observer first. Once you get the major shapes right you are on your way to a more successful painting.
