The Master Package includes three full length demonstrations. Each scene is uniquely challenging with varying light effects, but Colley will show you the key steps from start-to-finish of what’s needed to paint each one with eye-catching light, color and loose brushwork.
In A Chance Encounter Colley uses the opportunity to paint “the sense of life” which has always been important to him as a visual narrative. It’s how you add interest and scale to a scene with animals, people and architectural structure. Making sure these visual elements are always in balance will create an engaging painting for the viewer. This video will demonstrate and show you how to avoid overthinking and overcomplicating a busy scene - and the best way to correct it! You’ll also learn color mixing techniques you can use to paint strong light effects along with the importance of shadows and brushwork.
In Kiewa Valley, Australia he explains how to capture a scene that you would otherwise drive right past. He’ll show you how to turn a humble scene into a work of art, delving into edges and composition. Greens are one of the trickiest colours to control and with this scene having varying green planes there’s no escaping them. You’ll learn how to achieve the effect of distance by using tonal values & also how important it is to use directional lines as a device to control the composition and lead the viewer through the painting.
In View Out The Window you’ll get a unique insight into the marvellous world of interiors and how to paint them with light and mood. Colley explains when starting an interior scene it’s important to achieve a clear separation between the three planes of depth: foreground, mid-distance and background. Then all too often we're confronted with the difficulties of how to paint interior scenes that have reflective window glass. Colley will demonstrate techniques on how you can tackle this troublesome aspect along with other challenging areas within an interior painting. You will see firsthand how he breaks down the subject with moving light pouring through the window and how he manages to create harmony with the scene using "more with less".
This complete package will provide you with the help and confidence needed to paint difficult subjects with ease and originality. These videos will surely inspire every artist no matter what your skill level.
